Magnetic Communication Part 1-Simon Chan: MY NOTES

images

Simon Chan tells about how he was really shy growing up and had a hard time communicating with people. I too, have struggled with talking to people. He even mentions that not taking the time to communicate and not listening when communicating is bad communication. I am guilty of both. I have gotten so caught up in my own world, that I didn’t take time to talk to people and when I did talk to people, I mostly talked about myself. It’s easy to talk about yourself, especially when that is who you spend most of your time with. I spent most of my time alone as a child, teen, and a young adult. I didn’t have many friends and it wasn’t because people didn’t like me. I think people liked me, but they didn’t really know me well. I didn’t give them a chance to know me and mostly, I didn’t take time to get to know them.

I began calling two people a day almost two months ago so I could ask people how they were doing. It seemed to make them feel good. The best communicators are those who listen to other people. I still make mistakes when talking to people. I catch myself rambling and I think it is a nervous habit because I want to be interesting to other people and I want them to like me. The reality is if I would listen to other people and let them talk, I would be the most interesting person to other people. I never thought about that until recently. Take time to listen to others because everyone just wants to be heard in this world. Listening is a skill and the only way to improve a skill is to practice it. In order to practice listening, you have to talk to more people throughout your day.

Communication Skills

Importance of Communication

-Good Communication: Leads to Happier Life; Better relationships

-Growing up shy & not able to communicate

-Poor Communication leads to problems and conflicts

-Poor Communication causes misunderstanding and judgement (not taking the time to communicate, not taking the time to “listen” when you communicate)

-Listening is the Key to Communication

-Best part of network marketing is it FORCES you to learn how to communicate

-Prospecting, sponsoring, and leading your team is all about communication

-Getting out of your comfort zone & learning to communicate

-Must learn basics of communication to prospect and build your network marketing business

-Basic Communication- you can talk to prospects

-As you get better- do presentations and trainings

-Using Communication Skills to inspire and help others in your community.

Basic Rules of Communication

-You Must really care about others.

-The best communicators are the best leaders.

-Prospecting is all about finding out about your prospects needs and how you can help them.

-Be a good listener, not a good talker

-Goal: Find any way to help someone, not necessarily just for your business. This forces you to listen more and provide value, especially when meeting new people. This also allows you to find the needs of a prospect and which prospect angle is best.

-Smile! Always smile, even when you are on the phone. People can “hear” the smile.

-Law of Attraction- you attract what you are. If you are happy and positive, those will be the prospects you attract.

-Never complain, nor gossip.

-Feeds negative energy into your mind and messes up your subconscious mind.

-If you are a negative person or tend to complain and gossip, no prospect will want to listen, nor join you!

Reading the Prospect

-Learn to read the prospect and find a prospects’ real concerns and needs.

-If a prospect is only interested in products, don’t go and talk business! (& vice versa)

-Ways to “read” the prospects:

  • Facial expressions
  • Words they say
  • How they say the words (tone, volume, speed)

You always want to read the prospect. Face to Face is Best; Phone is 2nd Best and emails and texting are terrible.

-REALLY REALLY LISTEN!

-Listening reveals what prospects’ real needs & concerns are

-Voice inflection: “I did not say John beat his wife” This sentence has 8 different meanings depending on voice inflection. (You’ll never be able to get this in an email or text)

-Always READ the prospect

-Goal is to find something to help them

-Must present something that fits THEIR interest

People Must Like You

-People buy from people they like,

-You must make prospects like you.

2 Ways to Get People to Like You

-Letting them talk and vent (be a good listener!)

-Establish commonality

Letting Others Talk & Vent

Everyone wants to feel important

Everyone wants to be heard

Everyone likes to talk

But the people they talk to ALWAYS want to talk and be heard. So there is always a conflict.

An immediate way to stand out and get someone to like you is to Let them talk!

Let them feel important.. hear them out.. let them vent.

The more they talk, the more they like you!

And remember, the MORE they like you, the greater the chance they will join you or buy your products.

Establish Commonality

-People like people who are in commonality, we gravitate towards people who are similar to us or have similar interests.

-So talk & share things that you have in common with prospect.

-But you Must Listen First!

-Talking about common things makes you a better communicator.

90% of your success comes from your mindset.

Network Marketing helps us to fulfill our potential.

Success Requires hard work & sacrifice

Success also requires new skills & patience

If you have 10 ideas, seven will lose money, two will break even, and one will work out. The profit from that one that worked out will make up for the loss from the seven that didn’t work out. This is similar to network marketing, you have to recruit many people, but one will be a superstar.

Your best prospects are the ones who are looking for a change of direction in life.

Ray Higdon Tips on How to Become a Top Earner

Part 1: What you need to know BEFORE you prospect anyone.

  1. Consider this a long-term career- You have to think about Network Marketing as an actual career. It is not a get rich quick or a lottery ticket; it is a profession.
  2. You are NOT easily persuaded by the opinions of others.
  3. Embrace a daily routine

Part 2: How to Start with your Prospecting!

-You are going to have to get alot of No’s. You will have to get used to rejection.

-You don’t make money getting ready to get ready. You have to be willing to get out there and imperfectly move forward.

Warm Market

-Are your circle of friends business people? Does your warm market come to you for business advice? Tell them, “Hey, I’m doing this thing, I think it my be a fit for you, check it out.”

-If so, you are going to have an easy road to recruiting because they will listen to anything you say. However this is not duplicatable because most people don’t have those type of connections.

-At some point, you will get team members, who do not have those types of connections. If you are limited to teaching your recruits warm market, you are going to take people who could have had success and they will quit.

-If you have been in other companies, do not give warm market the money message. They won’t listen, they are burnt out. Say, “I know you have 0 interest in the business, but I think you might like the product.”

Cold Market

  1. There will always be more cold market than warm market. Always more people that you don’t know than you do know.
  2. Even if you have an amazing warm market, you are going to recruit people who don’t have a great warm market. If you are limited to teaching your recruits warm market, you are going to take people who could have had success and they will quit.
  3. Cold Market does not know your history.

Ray Higdon’s favorite line for cold market: “Hey, I got to jump on this conference call, but I’m just curious would you be open to a side project if it didn’t interfere with what you are doing?” Never say “Are you interested?”

-Prospect will ask “What is it?” Say, I’d be more than happy to let you know what it is, but unfortunately I have this conference call (you have to go do something). But let me get your information and I’ll follow up with you to see if this is a fit for you or not.

-If prospect says, “What is it? I won’t give you my number unless I know what it is.” You will say, “I got to jump on this conference call, if you don’t want me to take your information, it’s totally cool, have a nice day, it was good seeing you.” Don’t let cold market push you around.

MY WHY

Why-do-we-walk-the-camino-de-santiago

If you are in network marketing and you want to be really successful at your business, you should figure out your why and write it down where you can see it all the time.  Your why makes you push past your fears and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Your why could be as simple as saving for a car or as big as buying your parents a house. Your why is used to keep you motivated daily.

MY WHY

I want to be financially free. This is My Why.  Being financially free can make your future brighter and inspire others to do the same. I worked as a full-time teacher for about a month and a half in 2014. This was my first and only full-time job and it will be my last full-time job. The pay was great for a single person, but they wanted you to work on all these projects in addition to teaching 6-7 classes a day. The pay was not worth what they were asking me to do. My leadership was disorganized and this made me see that I didn’t want to work for other people. I wanted to work for myself and I wanted to keep it that way.

I started my own business as a voice teacher and I had more success with this than I had when I was searching for jobs for a almost a year and a half. My marketing for the business helped me get a job as an independent contractor at a local private school. It also helped me teach vocal lessons to students in the community.

I love having my own business because I made more money, worked fewer hours and still got to perform on stage, which is my dream. However, I know that I cannot support myself for the future with this business. My business has helped me pay my bills and support myself month to month, but I am still living paycheck to paycheck. Many Americans live this way and it is not a great way to live, especially when emergencies happen or when you want to retire in the future.

I realized that if I work my network marketing business consistently, I can still work on my own time and perform professionally in musical theatre.  If an emergency occurs, I could pay my doctor bills with no problem. I am going to make a  seven figure income so that I can support myself without worries and inspire others to do the same so that they can change their lives forever. I believe I can do this, but this belief didn’t happen overnight.

I have had to work on my personal development by reading books, watching videos, listening to audios in my car, and writing in my journal. I’ve done this over the course of the last year. I am formerly shy and I will be successful at my business. Anyone can be successful at network marketing, but you have to change your mindset.  Network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. If you are serious about changing your life, you have to work on yourself, remove yourself from negative people, and build relationships with people daily. As my sponsor says “What do you want your Monday’s to look like? Begin dreaming again.”

I hope this helps you with your business,

My MLM Journey So Far…

Singing an aria or song in front of a crowd was a piece a cake compared to talking to people on the phone or in person. I felt alot like Dorothy in “The Wiz” when it came to network marketing. I was scared!!

Hello, My name is Dominique Duarte and I am a  performer, music teacher, and a network marketer. There I said it. This was not easy for me to say. I have been in network marketing for awhile, but my fears have really held me back. It’s funny because a few of my closest friends, who I talk to regularly had no idea I had been doing network marketing until last week. That is how you know your fear is strong because you don’t even mention it to your best friends. I was scared and I didn’t know how people would perceive my new business venture. I cared what people thought and it hindered my progress in this industry.

When I graduated college, I had a hard time finding a job, so I decided to sell insurance. I liked the idea of a large income for hard work, but I didn’t have the confidence. A woman at the insurance company was a Mary Kay distributor and she pressured me into joining Mary Kay. I really did say “No”, but she would not take it for an answer and I wasn’t great at standing up for myself, so I signed up. This type of recruiting is not the best way to get prospects to join your team by the way. I didn’t really wear much make-up and I dropped out of the company and got a full refund for my products. During this time I had no idea that Mary Kay was network marketing. I was 23 and I didn’t know what network marketing was at all.

At the end of that same year, I was introduced to another company and this time I found out what network marketing was. There was nothing wrong with this company, except that to really get in the business for real you needed to pay $1500, plus tax. I tried selling many things to get this money and I did not get enough. I ended up getting in as silver and not gold. I stayed in this company for about a year, but I didn’t do much activity. I was scared and I just didn’t know how to talk to people. I will say that the company I joined did teach me about personal development and I did begin reading books and I have probably been reading those books for about a year now.

Earlier this year, my friend, now my sponsor, introduced me to a company relatively new to the United States. I thought this company had a better variety of products and I tried the flagship product and it worked. I thought “Sure I will join this company and it will be great, I just have to share my story.” Wrong. I was still scared and it wasn’t that easy for me to tell other people about my testimony. It was even harder to tell my family and friends because I really feared talking to them about this business for fear of rejection.

Meanwhile, I had started my own business teaching vocal lessons. I got a part-time teaching job through my business and I was making enough to support myself, which was great. I had experienced working for other people when I worked temporarily as a full-time public school teacher and it was awful. When I experienced having my own business, I realized that I don’t want to work for other people. However, my small business will never let me be financially free. If I miss a check or two or an emergency happens, I don’t have too much money left over.

I really believed in network marketing, and the company, but I didn’t believe in myself. When you don’t believe in yourself, it doesn’t matter what company you join, you will not have much success.

The Game changer occurred for me, when I was hired to perform in Little Rock this summer at a professional dinner theatre. It gave me a chance to get away from home, which I hadn’t done since I had graduated college and it gave me free time to work on myself. I read that it takes 21 days to create a new habit. So I worked on 5 small habits, including calling 2 people a day to see how they were doing and did it for 21 days. Now, I have been doing this for 39 days and it gave me the courage to begin doing launch calls for my business. This required contacting my family and friends and this was the scariest thing for me to do, and it wasn’t easy, but I did it and that means that I can do this business. MLM is about overcoming your fears, so you can help other people overcome their fears and by the grace of God, I will be successful at this and help others do the same so they can be financially free.

I hope this gives you courage to overcome your fears!

Writing a Daily Affirmation

this-is-the-day1

One of my friends told me that she wrote a daily affirmation to say to herself everyday. I had never thought to do this, but I think it helps you to start your day with the right mindset. Many network marketers have stated in books and videos that they do something everyday to work on themselves so I suggest writing a daily affirmation. You can use books with daily affirmations, but I think it becomes more personal when you write your affirmation yourself. Only you know the person that you want to become and only you know the negative thoughts that you have been speaking to yourself and if you say a daily affirmation, you are talking to your sub-conscious mind as well. Change is difficult because we say we want to change but our sub-conscious mind does not want to change. We have many negative thoughts about ourselves and we have probably been feeding those negative thoughts for years. Speak good things about yourself regularly and catch yourself when you are not being kind to yourself. Be a good friend by being compassionate to yourself. So let’s get started everyone!

First, write down what you value and what person you would like to become. Then, write your daily affirmation. Post your daily affirmation where you can see it everyday. Recite the affirmation in the mirror in power stance with hands on your hips. Recite it with confidence and speak those words as if you truly believe them even if you don’t right now. One day you will believe those words and will be that person that you envision in your affirmation. Below is the daily affirmation I have said to myself since July 14, 2015:

“This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. I am beautiful, talented, and committed to pursuing my goals. I will push past my fears to help other people overcome their fears and uplift their spirits. I will be a servant to others. I love the Lord, myself, and others wholeheartedly. I will meet my challenges, fulfill my purpose, have a positive attitude, choose to do the right things, believe in myself and others. I will commit to fulfilling my purpose during my time here on earth.

Ladies and gentleman, I am not the person in this affirmation yet, but I will keep saying this everyday so that I become the person that I hope to become someday.

Hope this helps! Be Blessed.

How do you get more eyeballs on presentations? Make more calls or get offer in front of more people.

How to get more eyeballs

  1. Prospect Warm Market- Talk to Warm Market when we don’t care if they are going to sign up.
  2. Prospect Cold Market: The benefits are they don’t know my history; there is an unlimited amount of them.
  3. Prospect Online/Offline
  4. Prospecting & Marketing

Passive marketing- you do something that you hope an unknown person will react to it.

Market Offline- Use Drop cards, flyers, Decals, and Apparel

Marketing Online- Talking about your company online will turn people off; will lose the element of surprise; people will see negative comments, or end up joining under someone else, Do not market your company name online.

I would suggest reading Network Marketing for Facebook and other books about online network marketing to make sure you are doing it the right way.

Hope this helps your business! Be Blessed!

20/30 Vision: Recruiting 20 people in 30 Days Part One

Go ProEric Worre is one of the biggest names in the network marketing industry and his book Go Pro has become a very popular read as well. I ordered it this weekend and I am excited to begin reading it soon. While waiting for my book to arrive, I watched a few videos by network marketing professionals and came across Eric Worre’s video on How to Recruit 20 people in 30 Days. This is what I learned from his video so far.

Two of the biggest myths in Network Marketing are “slow & steady win the race” and “just don’t quit and you will make big money in network marketing”. Slow and steady wins the race is a great philosophy in society, but not in this industry.

Mr. Worre presented the following numbers to show the difference between pushing hard in a short period of time and going slow and steady over a long period of time.

Slow & Steady vs. Recruiting 20 people in 30 Days

Slow & Steady– Recruit 1 person a month for 20 months & the following will probably happen:

Out of those 20 recruits, 8 people will do something, 4 people will look like leaders in 90 days, and 1 (rare) leader will be contributing to 90% of your income within a year. After 5 years, 0 major leaders will be contributing to 90% of your income.

Recruiting 20 people in 30 Days– Out of those 20 recruits, 12 people will do something, 8 will disappear or quit. Out of those 12 people doing something, 8 people will look like leaders in 90 Days. Within 12 months, you will only have 4 leaders generating 90% of your income. Within 5 years, 4 people will turn into 2 leaders.

Basically, network marketing is all about the numbers and if you really want to change your circumstances financially, you must give this a 100 percent of your effort. I didn’t say give it 100 percent of your time. You should keep your current job until you can match your current income. You can work this business part-time or work it full-time if you want to. But whether you are working full-time or part-time, you must give 100 percent of your effort to make your business successful. Success loves speed and if you really work your business, you will see results.

Most six-figure network marketers recruited about 20 people in 30 days at least once in their career. The millionaires in this business recruited 20 people in 30 days multiple times in their career.

Now let’s address the “just don’t quit and you will make big money in network marketing” myth. There are millions of network marketers who stay in MLM, but they are making very little money if any at all. A burst of energy in a short period of time gives you the momentum to get your business off the ground, and is also known as a 90 Day Run.  Since your recruits will follow your work ethic, it is crucial that you give your best and teach them to do the same. You definitely should not quit network marketing, but just because you stay with your company long term doesn’t mean you will make big money if you are giving little effort. It’s just like one of the rules I have in my music class for my students, “Always give your best effort and your best attitude.” This should work for you and your business as well. And that is all for now. Here is a link to the video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV_f8axBZCA.

Overcoming Fear With A Little Help From A Friend

friendship-gift5b15d

I started my 90 Day Run today and I am really excited to launch my new business venture. A 90 Day Run is a burst of hard work and energy to really get your network marketing business off of the ground. I will elaborate further about the 90 Day Run in a future post.

One of the first steps to success in network marketing is changing your mindset and overcoming fear. Overcoming fear is difficult, but with the support of a great friend, anything is possible.

Many people have friends, which is great, but there are those special friends that really bring out the best in you. I made a friend who loves me enough to tell me the truth when I need it and pushes me to be my best. My friend helped me make calls this weekend and practiced with me so that I could overcome my fears of calling people. She critiqued me and encouraged me while I made those phone calls. I really needed that push to begin calling people and will now be able to make calls on my own.

In order to be successful in network marketing, I think everyone should have a friend like the one I described above. This doesn’t mean that your friend does your work for you and it doesn’t mean that you don’t take action to make your business successful. It means that having support from others in this industry is what makes it so special. Network Marketing is all about building relationships, making friends and helping those friends succeed and reach their personal goals. That’s all for now. Enjoy!
