MY WHY

If you are in network marketing and you want to be really successful at your business, you should figure out your why and write it down where you can see it all the time.  Your why makes you push past your fears and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Your why could be as simple as saving for a car or as big as buying your parents a house. Your why is used to keep you motivated daily.

MY WHY

I want to be financially free. This is My Why.  Being financially free can make your future brighter and inspire others to do the same. I worked as a full-time teacher for about a month and a half in 2014. This was my first and only full-time job and it will be my last full-time job. The pay was great for a single person, but they wanted you to work on all these projects in addition to teaching 6-7 classes a day. The pay was not worth what they were asking me to do. My leadership was disorganized and this made me see that I didn’t want to work for other people. I wanted to work for myself and I wanted to keep it that way.

I started my own business as a voice teacher and I had more success with this than I had when I was searching for jobs for a almost a year and a half. My marketing for the business helped me get a job as an independent contractor at a local private school. It also helped me teach vocal lessons to students in the community.

I love having my own business because I made more money, worked fewer hours and still got to perform on stage, which is my dream. However, I know that I cannot support myself for the future with this business. My business has helped me pay my bills and support myself month to month, but I am still living paycheck to paycheck. Many Americans live this way and it is not a great way to live, especially when emergencies happen or when you want to retire in the future.

I realized that if I work my network marketing business consistently, I can still work on my own time and perform professionally in musical theatre.  If an emergency occurs, I could pay my doctor bills with no problem. I am going to make a  seven figure income so that I can support myself without worries and inspire others to do the same so that they can change their lives forever. I believe I can do this, but this belief didn’t happen overnight.

I have had to work on my personal development by reading books, watching videos, listening to audios in my car, and writing in my journal. I’ve done this over the course of the last year. I am formerly shy and I will be successful at my business. Anyone can be successful at network marketing, but you have to change your mindset.  Network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. If you are serious about changing your life, you have to work on yourself, remove yourself from negative people, and build relationships with people daily. As my sponsor says “What do you want your Monday’s to look like? Begin dreaming again.”

My MLM Journey So Far…

Singing an aria or song in front of a crowd was a piece a cake compared to talking to people on the phone or in person. I felt alot like Dorothy in “The Wiz” when it came to network marketing. I was scared!!

Hello, My name is Dominique Duarte and I am a  performer, music teacher, and a network marketer. There I said it. This was not easy for me to say. I have been in network marketing for awhile, but my fears have really held me back. It’s funny because a few of my closest friends, who I talk to regularly had no idea I had been doing network marketing until last week. That is how you know your fear is strong because you don’t even mention it to your best friends. I was scared and I didn’t know how people would perceive my new business venture. I cared what people thought and it hindered my progress in this industry.

When I graduated college, I had a hard time finding a job, so I decided to sell insurance. I liked the idea of a large income for hard work, but I didn’t have the confidence. A woman at the insurance company was a Mary Kay distributor and she pressured me into joining Mary Kay. I really did say “No”, but she would not take it for an answer and I wasn’t great at standing up for myself, so I signed up. This type of recruiting is not the best way to get prospects to join your team by the way. I didn’t really wear much make-up and I dropped out of the company and got a full refund for my products. During this time I had no idea that Mary Kay was network marketing. I was 23 and I didn’t know what network marketing was at all.

At the end of that same year, I was introduced to another company and this time I found out what network marketing was. There was nothing wrong with this company, except that to really get in the business for real you needed to pay $1500, plus tax. I tried selling many things to get this money and I did not get enough. I ended up getting in as silver and not gold. I stayed in this company for about a year, but I didn’t do much activity. I was scared and I just didn’t know how to talk to people. I will say that the company I joined did teach me about personal development and I did begin reading books and I have probably been reading those books for about a year now.

Earlier this year, my friend, now my sponsor, introduced me to a company relatively new to the United States. I thought this company had a better variety of products and I tried the flagship product and it worked. I thought “Sure I will join this company and it will be great, I just have to share my story.” Wrong. I was still scared and it wasn’t that easy for me to tell other people about my testimony. It was even harder to tell my family and friends because I really feared talking to them about this business for fear of rejection.

Meanwhile, I had started my own business teaching vocal lessons. I got a part-time teaching job through my business and I was making enough to support myself, which was great. I had experienced working for other people when I worked temporarily as a full-time public school teacher and it was awful. When I experienced having my own business, I realized that I don’t want to work for other people. However, my small business will never let me be financially free. If I miss a check or two or an emergency happens, I don’t have too much money left over.

I really believed in network marketing, and the company, but I didn’t believe in myself. When you don’t believe in yourself, it doesn’t matter what company you join, you will not have much success.

The Game changer occurred for me, when I was hired to perform in Little Rock this summer at a professional dinner theatre. It gave me a chance to get away from home, which I hadn’t done since I had graduated college and it gave me free time to work on myself. I read that it takes 21 days to create a new habit. So I worked on 5 small habits, including calling 2 people a day to see how they were doing and did it for 21 days. Now, I have been doing this for 39 days and it gave me the courage to begin doing launch calls for my business. This required contacting my family and friends and this was the scariest thing for me to do, and it wasn’t easy, but I did it and that means that I can do this business. MLM is about overcoming your fears, so you can help other people overcome their fears and by the grace of God, I will be successful at this and help others do the same so they can be financially free.

-Blog what you learn (books, webinars, event notes)

-Focus on them, not you

-Keep it simple

-Don’t stop prospecting until you have plenty of leads coming in.

-Easiest way to become a trainer, create a blog. Build your blog now!!

-Choose domain name that is easy remember

-Blog daily- Keep it short and simple; you can also do a few blogs a week, but BE CONSISTENT!

-Provided value, so you generate leads

-Blog about how to make money, not necessarily your MLM company; have training and education

-Wordpress is the best for blogging and yes you should pay for your blog!

-Put your name in your blog post

-Ray Higdon doesn’t always have 500 words for his blog so you don’t have to have that many words all the time if you blog daily.

Have a positive mindset and be careful of the words you say to yourself.

Go to network marketing events because you will see people winning at these events and this is essential to your success.

You need to have belief and need to suspend your disbelief. Your past does not indicate your future.

Invest in your training and coaching with books, audios, and programs.

Stop thinking and start doing!

Lead Generation

Ask yourself  “Who would you love to get close to?” What do they need?

If you have an email list, email the following; “Hey there, I’m just curious what is the number one thing that you struggle with?” Let me know if I can be of help to you.” Ray said many people would respond to this message.

Prospecting & Recruiting

If you have been struggling to talk to people and you are still not taking action in your business, you need to get smarter at marketing! If you get smarter with marketing, strangers will reach out to you.

If you have a burnt warm market and you know for a fact that each individual is burnt, then call them up and say ” Hey I;m doing this business. I don’t think the business is a fit for you, but I think you might like the product.”

When someone looks at your presentation, NEVER ask “What did you think?” Instead ask, “What did you like about what you saw? If they say something negative, ask why did they watch it? Don’t try to convince people to join your business who say no or are negative about it.

If a prospect demands to know “What’s the price?” before watching the presentation, you should say “It probably won’t cost you a dime, because it may not be a fit for you. Most times the prospect will watch the presentation. Ray said that he thinks people that ask that question are being immature and childish and that you have to get firm with them. You don’t require the approval and acceptance of others.

Team Building & Duplication

You should inspire your team. Keep doing what you wish your people on your team were doing.

Avoid self-sabotage- You cannot be affected by what a team member would do in the short term. Many top earners did nothing for a long time in their businesses before they started getting serious about their business. You may have a team member who does nothing for awhile, but don’t quit your business. Keep working and maybe one day they will follow!

Systems

When your team members have questions, refer them all to the same resource. Content creation such as blogs or videos are great ways to document how you built your business so then your team members can refer to that content creation. This is duplication and it is essential to network marketing.

If you spend an hour talking to a team member about one of his/her questions, this will not be effective in the long term. Refer them to something you created so they will go to the content and do the work. People with no instruction recruit more people.

A blog is a great way to build your business and help your team have a system to refer to when they need it. You can simply watch a video, take notes and then post those notes on the blog and Ray said it was okay to do this.

20/30 Vision: Recruiting 20 people in 30 Days Part One

Go ProEric Worre is one of the biggest names in the network marketing industry and his book Go Pro has become a very popular read as well. I ordered it this weekend and I am excited to begin reading it soon. While waiting for my book to arrive, I watched a few videos by network marketing professionals and came across Eric Worre’s video on How to Recruit 20 people in 30 Days. This is what I learned from his video so far.

Two of the biggest myths in Network Marketing are “slow & steady win the race” and “just don’t quit and you will make big money in network marketing”. Slow and steady wins the race is a great philosophy in society, but not in this industry.

Mr. Worre presented the following numbers to show the difference between pushing hard in a short period of time and going slow and steady over a long period of time.

Slow & Steady vs. Recruiting 20 people in 30 Days

Slow & Steady– Recruit 1 person a month for 20 months & the following will probably happen:

Out of those 20 recruits, 8 people will do something, 4 people will look like leaders in 90 days, and 1 (rare) leader will be contributing to 90% of your income within a year. After 5 years, 0 major leaders will be contributing to 90% of your income.

Recruiting 20 people in 30 Days– Out of those 20 recruits, 12 people will do something, 8 will disappear or quit. Out of those 12 people doing something, 8 people will look like leaders in 90 Days. Within 12 months, you will only have 4 leaders generating 90% of your income. Within 5 years, 4 people will turn into 2 leaders.

Basically, network marketing is all about the numbers and if you really want to change your circumstances financially, you must give this a 100 percent of your effort. I didn’t say give it 100 percent of your time. You should keep your current job until you can match your current income. You can work this business part-time or work it full-time if you want to. But whether you are working full-time or part-time, you must give 100 percent of your effort to make your business successful. Success loves speed and if you really work your business, you will see results.

Most six-figure network marketers recruited about 20 people in 30 days at least once in their career. The millionaires in this business recruited 20 people in 30 days multiple times in their career.

Now let’s address the “just don’t quit and you will make big money in network marketing” myth. There are millions of network marketers who stay in MLM, but they are making very little money if any at all. A burst of energy in a short period of time gives you the momentum to get your business off the ground, and is also known as a 90 Day Run.  Since your recruits will follow your work ethic, it is crucial that you give your best and teach them to do the same. You definitely should not quit network marketing, but just because you stay with your company long term doesn’t mean you will make big money if you are giving little effort. It’s just like one of the rules I have in my music class for my students, “Always give your best effort and your best attitude.” This should work for you and your business as well. Overcoming Fear With A Little Help From A Friend

I started my 90 Day Run today and I am really excited to launch my new business venture. A 90 Day Run is a burst of hard work and energy to really get your network marketing business off of the ground. I will elaborate further about the 90 Day Run in a future post.

One of the first steps to success in network marketing is changing your mindset and overcoming fear. Overcoming fear is difficult, but with the support of a great friend, anything is possible.

Many people have friends, which is great, but there are those special friends that really bring out the best in you. I made a friend who loves me enough to tell me the truth when I need it and pushes me to be my best. My friend helped me make calls this weekend and practiced with me so that I could overcome my fears of calling people. She critiqued me and encouraged me while I made those phone calls. I really needed that push to begin calling people and will now be able to make calls on my own.

In order to be successful in network marketing, I think everyone should have a friend like the one I described above. This doesn’t mean that your friend does your work for you and it doesn’t mean that you don’t take action to make your business successful. It means that having support from others in this industry is what makes it so special. Network Marketing is all about building relationships, making friends and helping those friends succeed and reach their personal goals. That’s all for now. Enjoy!
